From Job Seeker to Employer: Bradley James’ Journey

Bradley James was not the type of man to ask for help lightly.

He spent the better part of a decade in the Army during his formative years, and then transitioned to the medical field, where for 15 years he helped other soldiers, veterans, and civilians suffering from mental illnesses.

His next career move took him to East Texas, where he became a law enforcement training sergeant. After 10 years in that role, he noticed the obvious signs of burnout and began longing for salty air and sand between his toes. So, two years ago, he moved to Galveston County, ready to start a new job and live out his beach dreams. But a medical emergency cut that plan short and left him jobless. A good friend recommended that he visit his local Texas City Workforce Solutions office.

“I came in and spoke with a bunch of people here,” he said, pausing to wipe away tears as he shared his testimonial with BakerRipley Workforce Solutions employees, Neighbors, and Texas City officials and members of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board at a May 2025 ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Workforce Solutions – Texas City Career Office. “They pointed me in the right direction. And over the course of the year that it took to get me in that direction, they provided services for me—they gave me uniforms and clothes to interview in, and gas money so I could get to job interviews.”

One of those interviews was with Danner’s Inc., a maritime logistics and securities company based in Pasadena, Texas. He got the job, and after six months, he returned to Texas City Workforce Solutions to get help with his resume. This time, he wanted a promotion.

The assistance he received on his resume helped him land his current leadership role as Assistant Operations Manager for Danner’s Inc. Today, Bradley James recruits Neighbors from Workforce Solutions, discovering other talented people in need of a fresh start.

“I’m very thankful for Texas City Workforce Solutions,” James said. “They were the perfect people to find me the perfect job and helped me build a perfect resume. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
