BakerRipley Family,

In recognition of National Teacher Appreciation Week, please join me in saluting all of our outstanding BakerRipley educators. Every day, our dynamic classroom teachers and stellar administrative support staff bring nothing short of excellence to the learning and development experience at our Head Start, Community Schools, and Adult Education locations all across the Houston region.

It is important to remember the deep roots of our organization’s overall commitment and dedication to education trace back to the seed that was planted by a teacher named Sybil Campbell. In the early 1900s when Houston was prospering from the new oil boom, Campbell believed it was immoral and unacceptable that so many hard-working poor people were struggling for access to basic needs. Her tireless and conscientious determination to bring life-changing social and educational resources to these families sparked action from a group of prominent community leaders and philanthropists—most notably, Alice Graham Baker, the founder of BakerRipley.

Today, our teachers and staff continue to carry Campbell’s legacy with a robust vitality that helps thousands of Neighbors change the trajectory of their lives. By inspiring thoughts and modeling behaviors, our teachers and staff open opportunities that help people foster dreams, build aspirations, overcome life’s challenges, and unlock their potential at every age and every stage of life.

And the span of their impact has no boundaries. From sparking the love of reading and writing among children to empowering parents and guardians to engage as learning partners and equipping low-income workers with new skills for better paying jobs, these are great responsibilities that make a difference in who our Neighbors will be in the future and how they will shape that future.

As someone who started her career as an educator, I know the hard work and dedication it takes to help every learner rise to their potential. In my opinion, one week of appreciation is hardly enough. There is room in my heart to give our BakerRipley educators all the love, respect, and appreciation they deserve every day. Let’s keep them lifted up with best wishes and gratitude for all that they do.

Warm regards,

Claudia Aguirre
